RenewaFi, the wholesale renewable energy marketplace, today announced that it has hired John Choi as Head of Origination.
With 17 years of experience in power markets, John has bought and sold hundreds of megawatts in the wholesale and retail space. He joins RenewaFi from Nacero Inc, where he managed the power and REC portfolio, and previously held roles at NextEra, OCI Solar Power, and NRG Energy.
John said: “Over my 17-year career in power, I’ve experienced how difficult it can be to originate renewable energy deals. As I learned more about RenewaFi, I became inspired by the company’s vision of using software to define the future of renewable offtake transactions. RenewaFi is building something entirely new – the first marketplace exclusively for originators – and I’m excited to help bring it to market.”
Noam Yaffe, Founder and CEO, said: “We are thrilled to welcome John to the RenewaFi team. John believes in the power of technology to improve origination workflows. At RenewaFi, he will help design, introduce, and enhance that technology.”
RenewaFi is the marketplace for wholesale renewable energy in ERCOT. Built for originators by originators, RenewaFi helps sophisticated market participants source offtake, so they can focus on closing deals. Originators on RenewaFi can browse, post, and counter indicative bids and offers – all anonymously. And when originators agree on terms, they can match to reveal their identities. RenewaFi increases speed to market, facilitates price discovery, and expedites counterparty matching. Ultimately, the company’s mission is to help renewable energy professionals decarbonize America’s electric grids.
